Coulter Counter

Coulter Counter Moltisizer 4e

DESCRIPTION

The Coulter Counter Multisizer 4e is a versatile tool for particle and cell sizing and characterization.

The Coulter principle, based on which the counter works, makes it possible to detect particles as they pass through the so-called electrosensitive zone of the instrument aperture, regardless of their nature and optical properties. Therefore Multisizer 4e is the ideal tool for examining and counting a wide range of particles: mammalian cells, bacteria, yeast, abrasives, toners, cell aggregates, spheroids, and even large protein aggregates.

particle size: 200 nm – 1600 μm
measuring range: 2 – 80% of the aperture size
determination of particle size change in real-time

USE IN THE PROJECT

Coulter particle counter – required to analyze the distribution of dust particles by number, volume, and surface area in ice cores in the range of 0.4 – 1600 microns. The measurements are of great importance concerning the critical question of atmospheric transport, concentration, and redeposition of dust on the glaciers’ surface and the absolute dating of ice cores based on known dust events. We will analyze the total content, seasonal variability, and intensity of dust deposition in the ice cores. It is planned to purchase a Beckman Coulter Multisizer 4e meter. This analyzer allows for direct measurements of the size and volume of particles, regardless of their color, shape, structure, and refraction.
